Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, weight loss, and food.

Stay Excellent!

January to July "No Buy" - The Low Down

January to July "No Buy" - The Low Down

In recent years I have actively attempted to mitigate my very apparent addiction to shopping. I have found some success in this by not shopping for “fast fashion” and 2018 I focused more on natural fibers and textiles in styles that I find timeless for my body type. To be honest this may have decreased the amount of shopping I was doing, but it did not decrease how much moola I was dropping.

So here we are in 2019 and I have some lofty goals in the next 2-5 years; and part of those goals pertain to my financial status. Western society doesn’t love to talk about money, and for women I feel this is even more of a taboo. But alas, this post and subsequent ones will have to touch on that by virtue of the fact that it is one of the factors that led me to choose this goal for the New Year. Also IT’S 2019(!!!), we can have real discussions about finances…

Complete list of reasons to do this:

  1. Save money, but also bring an awareness to how much I was spending by saving it instead!

  2. Get creative with the wardrobe I already have (let’s be honest, it’s extensive)

  3. Be a better friend to the Earth by not purchasing throw away clothes on a whim

  4. Consumerism and capitalism and such (not a proponent of these at all SO WHY DO I BUY IN?!)

  5. Stop wasting time mindlessly browsing online

So, what are the rules?

  1. No purchasing any clothing, accessory or makeup item that is not absolutely imperative (like home girl needs brow powder (WHEN IT RUNS OUT CHELSIE JEAL!)

  2. Replace only items that require it, such as intimates and other staples (to be fair I should make it 6 months without needing anything, but you never know)

  3. Evaluate my savings each month (means being more aware of my bank account. Peak millennial that I avoid this sometimes)

  4. Go through my closet and donate items that no longer align with my style goals or ethics (most non natural fibers, fast fashion items, articles of clothing that I don’t wear)

I’ll update my progress each month and hopefully post some OOTD that showcase the same pieces reworked. WISH ME LUCK FRIENDS <3
